In 2011 there was an international labelling copyright agreement, preventing countries outside of Portugal using the name ‘port’ to describe a fortified wine. Hence, the only logical name we could use for this wine was our Starboard Shiraz (Starboard being opposite to port in nautical navigation). Made from rich ripened Shiraz grapes, this wine also has a slight addition of brandy. The generous palate offers a tremendous concentration of ripe fruits of the forest, layered with rum-raisin chocolate and spice. These lush sweet fruit characters are well integrated with the oak matured fortifying spirit and approachable tannins, giving the wine structure, complexity and length.
