Our Wine Varieties


The Hunter Valley is recognised worldwide for producing exceptional Semillon. Pokolbin Estate Vineyard is no different, winning Best Semillon in Australia 5 times in the since 1999. Semillons strong attraction to the Hunters environment means the quality cannot been replicated anywhere else in the world.

Originally identified as Hunter Valley Riesling, Semillon is delicately crisp when young, with plentiful citrus aromas. However it’s Semillons ability to age that distinguishes itself from most white wines. During its ageing transition, Semillon moves from its crisp and acidic nature, to developing more of a toasty, honey-melon, nutty finish.

Semillons cellaring potential is dependent on its acidity, primary fruit characteristics and baume level of the vintage. Good quality Semillon has the ability to age over 20 years, however many people believe they peak around 8-10 years.

The lemon lime flavours and aromas of Semillon pair exceptionally well with fish, prawns, oysters or a light salad.
