Reserve Shiraz

Contrary to popular belief, Shiraz actually originated in Iran, not in France. It is now one of the most commonly grown grapes in the world. Because of Shiraz’s ability to adapt to most terrains, the flavour spectrum can vary quite extensively. In Australia, most people are familiar with the heavy Barossa Valley style Shiraz. In contrast, The Hunter Valley generally producing a medium bodied style shiraz.

Pokolbin Estate Vineyard is renowned for consistently producing exceptional Reserve Shiraz, winning numerous boutique and NSW wine awards. When making our Reserve Shiraz, we age the wine in new French oak for up to 18 months.

Shiraz displays a deep crimson-purple like colour with vibrant aromas of plum and berry fruits. The rich depth of fruit continues on the palate with lingering savoury tannins, highlighting the use of high quality French oak. Shiraz obviously has great cellaring potential. Dependent on the vintage, and how the consumer favours a particular style, Shiraz can age well over 25 years.

Shiraz pairs well with grilled or barbequed meat, hearty stews & casseroles, brisket and strong cheeses.
